MERLYN Merlyn
Formed in 1987, this Canadian power trio play 1980s style cult
traditional epic power metal with doom influences. It only takes a few
seconds of listening to think of bands like Manilla Road, Candlemass
(Epicus era), early Trouble, early Solitude Aeturnus, Dio (circa Last
In Line), and Angel Witch (s/t). The band dedicates their album to H.P.
Lovecraft. This
self titled CD, pressed in 1996, appears to have had no distribution
outside of Canada.

NATU SABVERATA Existing to
Ensure Your Destruction
Jeremy says "In the early 2000s North Carolina seemed dominated by
party rock, generic black metal, Pantera worship, and later kids with
bad haircuts wearing their sister’s pants and calling themselves
hardcore. True heaviness seemed a high in demand commodity, and few
could meet the supply. Then out of nowhere would step a trio that would
offer up that heaviness. For a brief stint in the earlier part of the
decade Natu Sabverata brought an element to the NC metal scene that was
desperately needed…Sure brutality. The band’s Sepulture and Celtic
Frost type structures doused with a bit of Trouble and Slayer made for
a perfect soundtrack for pure violence. Remember those days of circle
pits? The band stood out from the rest out in their local scene though
they only appeared live sporadically performing alongside of such
bands as Six Feet Under, Misery Index, Unleashes, Wehrwolfe, All That
Remains and Lamb of God. And though the band’s shows were few the
impressions were extreme to say the lease. However many hurdles and
much misfortune would lay ahead for Natu Sabverata; drugs, deaths,
member changes, broken promises and misleading music industry vultures
all that contributed to a long hiatus. The fifteen tracks on
‘Existing to Ensure Your Destruction’ are just some of the songs to
come out of the first part of the band’s history.
Currently Natu Sabverata is gearing up to be reborn and bring forth
more destruction."

OCTOBER 31 No Survivors
Big comeback album by old school power - speed - thrash - classic metal
merchants. This is easily their most consistent album to date, the
songwriting quick and to the point, with the up tempo pace for the
first 7 tracks leaving one breathless. And the doomy refrains of closer
"Misfortune" makes for a fine finish. Furious Overkill cover song
"Wrecking Crew" is slightly out of place (better as a bonus track) but
I'm not one to argue with King Fowley's decision (who is?).:) The
production, their best as far as I can recall, has all the hallmarks of
a muddy Alex Perialas job circa 1987, but it wouldn't sound "right" any
other way.

PHOBIC INSTINCT
Khaosmaster states "An awesome lost and found thrash metal gem
originally recorded in 1989 for the long gone NO REMORSE (BLIND
GUARDIAN, SACROSANCT, GRINDER, WARDANCE) label. The album never saw the
light of the day until almost 20 years later. PHOBIC INSTINCT features
the vocals of recently reunited German thrash metal legends EXUMER's
Mem Von Stein. Besides that, you will also get Stein's pre-EXUMER
recordings with bands like TARTAROS(Ger) & MAYHEM (Ger) as bonus.
Also included are the always mandatory liner notes + pics, etc..."
