Featuring one the partners of the now defunct Iron
Glory label, Battle Cry Records is dedicated to classic traditional
power metal, be it from the 1980s or from today. A few years back,
Battle Cry Records purchased the fabled Gama Records catalog, and has,
in partnership with Karthago Records, been releasing and licensing out
many gems from 1980s Germany metal bands.

ARCTIC FLAME Primeval Aggressor
Superb US traditional power metal featuring former Balistik Kick
members. The band is from the New Jersey/New York area so similarities
to known bands like Zandelle (Twilight on Humanity era) comes as no
surprise. They also remind me of Cerebus (Too Late to Pray) and other
middle 1980s trad power metal bands. But the cool thing about Arctic
Flame is that they do their own thing, using Celtic style guitar riffs
like Running Wild (circa Port Royal) and Tyton (Mind Over Metal) with a
smooth singer that delivers his lines with strong hooks and emotion.
Excellent songwriting of straight ahead, no frills, US trad metal with
catchy melodies and a mix of speed and Celtic anthems. Produced by Jack
Frost (Seven Witches, Metalium, Savatage).

MANILLA ROAD Gates of Fire
The Battle Cry label says "The album contains 3 long epic trilogies
with a total playing time of over 70 minutes and is definitely a
classic Manilla Road album that every fan of Open the Gates, Crystal
Logic, and The Deluge will love!!! The concept research information
shows, that also the lyrical concept is 100% classic Manilla Road." My
own assessment? The opening track is awesome, just prime Manilla Road.
And the new drummer is very good. Unfortunately the rest of the album,
like the last 3 or 4 albums preceding it, is a long, drawn out affair,
with the songs never seeming to end. This band needs a songwriting
editor. All the great Manilla Road traits are intact, but the songs are
just too long and jammy. And the production is below demo quality --
this legendary band deserves a better production.

changes had taken place, causing the band to become more melodic.
