PHANTOM LORD Circle of the Wasted
The term "2 album leap" applies here, as the band has brought in 3 new
players and have taken their sound to a new level of maturity. The
first two CDs were excellent traditional power metal offerings
recalling Wild Dogs and Bloodlust crossed with the German power metal
sound; this new one, their third, can be called "classy" melodic power
metal, with cleaner vocals, cleaner guitars, cleaner production and
more thoughtful songwriting. I prefer the first 2 CDs but 'Circle of
the Wasted' should appeal to fans of the German band Voice. Good classy
metal, sometimes in the power metal realm, sometimes anthemic.
